The below training courses are targeted at classes of 8 – 12 delegates. Whilst larger class sizes are possible by agreement, the content may need to be changed or adapted for greater numbers (following discussion of the needs for any particular client).

For groups with less than 8 delegates, a form of ‘master-class’ will be introduced with the  potential for more intensive one to one training or bespoke input.

Certificates are provided to delegates for all training course attendances, together with any other continuing personal development sessions.

Course 1121:

Child Protection Awareness Workshop

This workshop can be tailored to a variety of different groups of delegates and can run between 1 – 4 hours duration. Time required would depend upon the levels of experiences and respective roles of the participants, as well as availability to attend. Effective child protection work across organisations is built upon a foundation where as many people as possible possess up to date awareness and knowledge of the key considerations and imperatives.

The course is targeted at expatriate communities and organisations and the individuals within them who have contact with or access to children but possess limited safeguarding or child protection knowledge and experience. It can also be used as a refresher for these groups of people as well.

Whilst these workshops are tailored to the global ‘International School’ work context, the program content can be adapted where necessary to specifically support other types of organisations involved with children.

Courses 1122(a) & 1122(b):

Level One – Introductory Training (half-day or full-day course)

This half-day introductory course is targeted at those employees who have had little or no safeguarding training, as well as those who are looking for a basic update and refresher course.

The program is tailored to the global ‘International School’ workplace, albeit content can be adapted to specifically support other organisations if necessary.

Alternatively, depending upon intended delegates and their roles within International Schools or other organisations, a full-day version of this training is deliverable. This program is targeted at key stakeholders, senior leadership personnel, and those staff who are likely to become ‘Designated Child Protection Officers’ (DCPOs), ‘Designated Safeguarding Leads’ (DSLs), ‘Child Protection Officers’ (CPOs) or similar. Within the introduction to this program there is a brief focus on relevant strategic considerations. To further support International Schools in this regard, it is also possible to incorporate some targeted input into the half-day course on safeguarding strategy.

Courses 1123(a) & 1123(b):

Level Two – Advanced Training (one-day or two day course)

This one day advanced course (1123a) is targeted at key stakeholders, senior leadership and those staff who are or who are likely to become ‘Designated Child Protection Officers’ (DCPOs), ‘Designated Safeguarding Leads’ (DSLs), ‘Child Protection Officers’ (CPOs) or similar, as well as those who are looking for an up to date advanced refresher course.

The program is tailored to the global ‘International School’ workplace (though content can be adapted to specifically support other organizations if necessary).

Where time permits there is a two-day adaption of this course (1123b), where there is a more in depth focus on the roles of senior leadership and designated safeguarding staff. This course includes greater opportunities for the extended examination of pertinent case studies.

Courses 1124(a) & 1124(b):

Level Three – Specialist Training (one day or two day course)

This one or enhanced two day training program is firmly targeted at those staff taking on an International School leadership responsibility or a bespoke safeguarding or child protection role. A good overview can be obtained on the full one-day training event, however more time can be spent on case studies and scenario related role-play examination and practice if the two-day course is selected.

Courses 1125(a) & 1125(b):

Level One & Level Two Combined (one day or two day course)

This one or extended two-day training course is targeted at those employees who have had basic or introductory safeguarding training, as well as those who are looking for a combined introductory and advanced update or refresher course.

The program is tailored to the global ‘International School’ workplace, albeit content can be adapted to support other organisations if necessary.

This adaptable training approach was put together initially for a number of international schools that respectively had to respond to safeguarding crises. A timely and effective means of ensuring key staff were trained to the ‘Designated Child Protection Officer’ level was therefore imperative. Other schools have experienced the one-day or the two-day program as beneficial from a logistical and financial standpoint. These schools were able to link the training to scheduled school in-service days and so to facilitate optimal staff attendance in terms of numbers.

Courses 1126(a) & 1126(b):

Level Two & Level Three Combined (one day or two day course)

This one or extended two-day training course is targeted at International School key stakeholders (senior managers, Governors, Board Members, Administration staff and others) and Designated Child Protection Officers who have already undertaken basic or introductory safeguarding training. The course also acts as a combined advanced and specialist update or refresher course for those previously trained to these levels or standards.

Whilst the program is tailored to the global ‘International School’ workplace the content can be adapted to support other organisations where necessary.

This training approach was put together initially for a number of International Schools that respectively had to respond to safeguarding crises. A timely and effective means of ensuring key staff can be trained to the ‘Designated Child Protection Officer’ level was therefore imperative. Other schools have also experienced the one-day and the two-day programs as beneficial from a logistical and financial standpoint. Schools have been able to link the training to scheduled school in-service days and therefore facilitate the requisite time for key stakeholder attendance.

Course 1127:

Safer Recruitment Training (one-day or two-day course)

This is generally a one-day or a two-day extended training course targeted at key recruitment stakeholders from the International Schools’ sector (i.e. Board Members, HR, Administration staff, Heads of School, Principals and others). In current COVID-19 times, arrangements can be made to deliver an agreed program via Zoom in x3 or x5 set of two-hourly sessions (or other combinations by agreement). Designated Child Protection Officers who wish to extend their specialist knowledge, particularly around offender behaviour, may also find this course beneficial.

Whilst the program is tailored to ‘International School’ workplaces globally, the content can be adapted to support other organisations where necessary.

This training program has been put together following requests from a number of International Schools that have managed safeguarding crises linked to specific recruitment-based issues. Ideally used to build the repertoire of harm-prevention strategies as well as safer recruitment capacity within schools the course content can support decision makers and administrators to make safer and more effective choices on behalf of their school communities.

‘Investigative Interviewing Module’

Level Three Specialist – One Day Training (Bronze Level)

This training module is designed as a one-day basic workshop for delegates who have qualified to level three (specialist level) …or the equivalent…in safeguarding and child protection. The focus of the input is around the investigative interviewing of both children and young people as potential victims of abuse, as well as the questioning of other children or adults as possible witnesses.

Whilst it is recognized and understood that the ‘investigative role’ is something that should not be encouraged for all International Schools or their staff (remaining the domain and ultimate responsibility of the local statutory and law enforcement authorities), it can in some areas of the world be extremely useful and beneficial to understand at least some of these basic skills in relation to forensic interviewing. Such an understanding could at the very least help reduce the risk of inappropriate questioning of victims and witnesses, whilst at best could be invaluable in supporting an internal investigation deemed necessary by the school’s senior leadership team.

This is a basic bronze level training program. For more advanced input on investigative interviewing, silver level (two day) and gold level (five day) training courses are available.
